The .224 Valkryie was made to fill a gap in the long range small platform. The modern sporting rifle company, Federal Premium Ammunition, tackled the void and implemented their proven 6.8 SPC case and necked it down to utilize a .224 projectile.

Before Federal's modification, the only to compete at long range (1k+ yards) was using the large frame modern sport rifle's .308 Winchester and 6.5mm Creedmoor.

The 224 Valkyrie cartridge is a rimless bottlenecked intermediate rifle cartridge that was developed by Federal Premium Ammunition to rival the .22 Nosler while still running well in modern sporting rifles.
